In the technical world, you often see grey or steel blue tones dominate. But NAP Techniek BV has changed that by producing a bright pink industrial hydraulic cylinder, the first in the world. With this daring choice of colour, the company wants to draw attention to diversity in technology and make the field more attractive to a wider audience, including women and lovers of the colour.
“We want to show that tech is for women too,” says Priscilla Nap, the driving force behind the project. “Tech is not just for men, it’s a world of possibilities where everyone is welcome – whether you’re into tech or just into pink.”
A wink to customers
The bright pink cylinder is not only a statement, but also a subtle nod to customers of NAP Techniek BV “We always tell our customers: 'Be careful with statements like 'RAL color doesn't matter'... because before you know it, you'll get a creative twist like this!'” says Nap with a smile. Although the color choice was made in good consultation, the bright pink cylinder is already raising eyebrows and admiring glances in a factory that is 98% manned.
Why pink?
The choice of colour is no coincidence. With this step, NAP Techniek also wants to inspire women and show that the technology sector offers space for everyone. The striking colour is intended to start a conversation about diversity in technology, a sector that is still strongly dominated by men.
